FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK MY PORTRAIT SHOOT?

A: We can put together a shoot in a hurry if we need to, but I always prefer/recommend booking at least six weeks in advance if possible. This gives us plenty of time to make sure you have all the wardrobe pieces you need, for you to schedule any beauty appointments you may want as prep, and for me to design special little extras for your shoot. But if you’re on a tight schedule, still inquire! We most likely can figure it out.

Q: HOW MUCH DO CLIENTS USUALLY SPEND ON THEIR PORTRAITS?

A: It really varies! Packages including professionally styled hair + makeup,  consultation to design your shoot, wardrobe guidance, access to my studio wardrobe and the  photoshoot start at $2550. Some clients choose to purchase more images or add wall art to their package which can bring the total amount spent into the $5000 range. (*Please note that due to the nature of the product, once prints/digital files of chosen images have been delivered, all money paid is non refundable.)

Q: DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS?

A: Yes! when you book your session we can chat about what payment schedule works best for you.

Q: I DON’T LOOK LIKE A MODEL. IN FACT, I STRONGLY DISLIKE MY (CELLULITE, TUMMY, FILL IN THE BLANK) AND AM WORRIED IT WILL RUIN MY PICTURES. IS THERE A WAY AROUND THIS?

A: You absolutely do NOT need to look like a model, and we can work around anything about your appearance that you’re uncomfortable with. If you have something specific that you’re self conscious about, (as well as anything about your body that you LOVE and want to focus on!) let’s chat about it in our meeting or before your session gets started so I can be aware of it as I shoot.

Q: DO YOU RETOUCH ALL THE PORTRAITS?

A: All photos that you select to purchase will be retouched to address blemishes, deep lines (unless you request otherwise), etc. I don’t generally erase scars, moles or tattoos unless requested, and do minimal in the way of “nips and tucks” as most of that is addressed in using flattering poses. So yes, they are retouched, but will still look like you.

Q: HOW MANY PICTURES WILL I HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM?

A: Typically there will be around 75 images to view during your reveal + ordering session

Q: DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT TO HOLD MY SESSION DATE?

A: Yes. Once you're ready to book you'll pay a $500 retainer that goes towards your package. The rest is due a week before your session.

Q: HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I PLAN ON SPENDING AT THE STUDIO? AND DO YOU HAVE WEEKEND APPOINTMENTS?

A: Sessions usually last 3-4 hours including hair + makeup styling. I prefer week dates if possible but if weekends are best for you we can make it happen!

Q: HOW MANY OUTFITS SHOULD I BRING TO MY SHOOT? DO YOU PROVIDE ANY WARDROBE OR STYLING ADVICE?

A: I recommend bringing 5-6 outfits to your shoot. When we have our pre-shoot discussions, I will guide you through which styles/textures/colors photograph well and what sort of variety to be looking for as you gather your wardrobe pieces. I can put together an inspiration board with some ideas if you’re not usually a fan of shopping. I also have some clothing available at the studio, and a TON of fabric that I often use to create “dresses” on the spot. And if you like a little (or BIG) tulle, floral or feather embellishment, I’ve got ya covered! Styling and gathering wardrobe for shoots is one of my MOST favorite parts of the process, so I am here to weigh in and help as much as you need.

Q: WHAT DO I DO IF I DON’T LIKE MY HAIR AND MAKEUP AFTER THE STYLIST FINISHES?

A: Please, PLEASE let us know right away if you don’t love your hair or makeup! No feelings will be hurt, your makeup artist and I both want you to love how you look. So speak up and we’ll fix it! It’s imperative for both the end result of your pictures as well as your confidence during the shoot that you’re happy with your styling.

Q: WHEN AND HOW WILL I GET TO SEE MY FINISHED PICTURES?

A: we'll set a time for your reveal and ordering session within a week of your shoot date. That will be when you select which images you want to purchase as part of your package (and as well art if desired). From there, expect about 10-12 weeks for your final deliverable items (our boxes and albums are handcrafted).

Q: I’M NOT PHOTOGENIC AND AM SUPER AWKWARD IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA. SHOULD I NOT EVEN BOTHER DOING THIS OR CAN YOU HELP?

A: First of all, there is no such thing as unphotogenic! There ARE bad poses, unflattering angles, and tense faces. I can and will help with all of that and more. I will guide you through the posing of every shot we take, so there won’t be any moments of “what should I do with my hands/legs/face!?”

Q: DO YOU DO BOUDOIR SESSIONS?

A: Sure! I will say that if you’re looking for super sexual images, I’m not your gal. My "boudoir" style is really more about showcasing the body as art (think renaissance paintings) and empowering women to embrace and celebrate their physical selves. Like all of my sessions, these portraits are about and for *you,* not anyone else.

Q: DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH MEN/BABIES/FAMILIES?

A: short answer: I AM *NOT* A NEWBORN OR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING FOR YOUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CARD, THIS PROBABLY ISN'T THE SHOOT FOR THAT. That said, My primary focus is on women of all ages and if they would like to be photographed with their partners and children, I am honored to include them in the shoot. I especially LOVE to photograph generations of women together (grandma, mom, granddaughter), sisters and best friends. And mamas with their babes!

Q: CAN I BRING SOMEONE TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED WITH ME?

A: Yes! See above! We can also do two shoots at the same time if you want to make it a girls day out with a friend, mom or sis.

Q: IF I DO A PHOTOSHOOT WITH A FRIEND, CAN WE SHARE/SPLIT A portrait COLLECTION?

A: no - each adult photographed will be given their own ordering session and purchase their own package

Q: WHAT IF I WANT TO DO A SHOOT WITH A BUNCH OF MY GIRLFRIENDS? HOW WOULD THAT WORK?

A: Contact me and let’s talk! I can absolutely set this up for you, it makes for an incredibly fun day.

Q: I’M AN ASPIRING MODEL AND WOULD LOVE SOME SHOTS FOR MY PORTFOLIO. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL PACKAGE FOR BUILDING A BOOK?

A: If you are signed with an agency, have them contact me and we can set up a test shoot. If you’re just starting out, I recommend booking a regular session or, if you’re on a tight budget, coming to a headshot day which we have throughout the year.
